Jufuku-ji, established in 1200, is a temple of the Kenchō-ji branch of the Rinzai sect and holds the distinction of being the oldest Zen temple in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Founded by Hōjō Masako to enshrine her husband, Minamoto no Yoritomo, the temple is a significant historical site. It is also notable for its association with Myōan Eisai, the priest who introduced Zen Buddhism and green tea to Japan. Although the temple's Main Hall is not open to the public, it houses important cultural treasures, including statues of Shakyamuni and the Niō guardians. Jufuku-ji's serene environment and rich history continue to attract visitors and Buddhist practitioners alike.
Nagushiyama Park, nestled in Sasebo City, is a scenic locale renowned for its azalea blooms that create a vibrant tapestry of color each spring. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Kita Kujuku Island and Hirado Island, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers alike. The park also offers a variety of facilities, including a camping ground, a visitor center, and a playground with a unique 100-meter roller slide, providing a delightful experience for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Saikai Bridge is an arch bridge built in 1955 to connect Sasebo City and Nishisonogi Peninsula. It is 316 meters long and 43 meters above the sea. The rapids and tidal currents of the Harioseto Rapids are one of the three largest rapids in Japan. During the low tide period of the vast Omura Bay, the tides passing through the narrow Harioseto (about 200 meters wide) are spectacular. The high tides in spring and autumn are particularly spectacular. Around Saikai Bridge, there are about 1,000 cherry trees in full bloom, and you can enjoy both the sea tide and the cherry blossoms at the same time.
The Yumihari Park Observation Deck offers a breathtaking panoramic view that is a must-see for any visitor to Sasebo. Perched atop Mt. Yumiharidake, the deck is renowned for its spectacular vistas of the city and the surrounding sea.
