There is a nationwide shortage of tour guides in Japan following the pandemic. During the pandemic, many tour guides lost their jobs and had to change careers. For your reservation to be secured, we would need payment for the full amount due to the massive demand for Japan tourism after its reopening. To protect your interests and those of others looking for the same service as yours, please review our cancellation policies.
Your shore excursion can only be reserved with full payment if there are fewer than 10 people in your group. For a group larger than 10, 50% of the price can be accepted as a deposit. The other 50% can be paid 30 days before embarkation. We do not accept onsite or after-tour payments.
For our private shore excursions in major ports of Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Shimizu, and Kobe, your deposit is fully refundable up to 30 days before your trip begins - provided you've booked 30 days or more before your final payment due date. Between 29 and 15 days before your departure, 50% of your deposit is refundable. Between 14 and 10 days, 25% is refundable. Shorter than 10 days, 0% is refundable.
In other ports with limited English-speaking tour guides, your deposit will be fully refunded up to 60 days before your trip begins, if you booked 60 days or more in advance. Between 59 and 45 days before your departure, 50% of your deposit is refundable. Between 44 and 30 days, 25% is refundable. Shorter than 29 days, 0% is refundable.
Cancelled Trips
There is a minimum of 20 passengers and a maximum of 30 passengers per small group excursion organized by Japan Adventure Club. Japan Adventure Club reserves the right to cancel any trip prior to departure for any reason, including insufficient enrollment or logistical problems. We will refund all deposits in such a case.
Port Cancellation and Insurance Claim Support
We regret to inform you that we are unable to process any refunds for your shore excursion bookings in the event of port cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a typhoon. These changes are usually made abruptly by your cruise line and are beyond our control. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these disruptions, but we have already committed our resources and made non-refundable payments to secure the vehicle and driver for your service.
You may seek compensation from the cruise line or your travel insurance provider. We are happy to support you and provide your booking confirmation as evidence of your claim. We also strongly recommend you to purchase a travel insurance to protect your travel. You can find more information of our preferred insurance provider AIG Travel Guard on our site.
If your cruise line informs you that your trip is canceled due to the pandemic, earthquake, or war, you'll also receive a 100% refund for your booking.
For multi-day vacation and land tours, your deposits are fully refundable up to 60 days before your trip begins - provided you've booked 60 days before your travel date. Between 59 and 30 days before your departure, 50% of your deposits are refundable. Between 29 and 14 days, zero is refundable.
However, if you wish to change your date, you can keep your deposit and reschedule for a future date. You may keep it for up to 5 years.
If you have to cancel your trip due to the pandemic or war, you'll also receive a 100% refund for your booking.

Japan is a destination that offers many attractions, from vibrant urban centers to stunning natural scenery and historical monuments. However, you might have to cancel your trip at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, such as a family emergency. That's why trip cancellation insurance is a smart option to protect your investment and avoid losing money. Trip cancellation insurance can reimburse you for the non-refundable expenses of your travel arrangements if you have to cancel for a covered reason.
“For virtually any international destination, I would recommend purchasing a travel insurance product that includes coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, medical expense, medical evacuation and baggage,” says Scott Adamski, spokesperson with AIG, which offers Travel Guard policies.''
The Travel Guard Deluxe Plan provides solid protection for many potential travel problems beyond cancellation and medical expenses, including closed attractions, runway delays, missed connections and more.
